Disability Insurance

You may be in the best shape of your life and can’t imagine an event that would keep you from coming to work each day, but neither could many of the nearly 40 million Americans with a disability in 2015 (U.S. Census Bureau.) So what happens if you suddenly become unable to work due to injury, illness, or pregnancy?

Massachusetts unemployment laws do not allow disabled workers to file a claim for unemployment. Medicaid and Social Security programs do not cover loss of income due to temporary disabilities under a year. Workers Compensation only covers on-the-job accidents and illnesses. The federal Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) protects qualified workers for up to 12 weeks of unpaid job-protected leave. If you’re unable to work for at least 60 days and you meet income and asset requirements, the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA) may be able to provide emergency assistance, but other than that, there aren’t many options for temporary loss of income due to off-the-job injuries or illnesses.

Aronson Insurance provides individual disability insurance packages that deliver protection in the event of income loss from a disability.

Long Term Disability Insurance – replaces a substantial portion of your income when you’re unable to work for an extended period of time due to a disability. It provides time – time to fully recover, make lifestyle changes, or find an alternative source of income while you are can’t work due to your injury or illness.

Don’t wait until it’s too late. Most policies exclude pre-existing conditions for one year. Protect yourself against the possibility of extended time away from work by purchasing disability insurance before you become sick, hurt, or pregnant. Call David Kaplan today at 781-444-3050.
