Do you have an oil tank in your home? Did you know that MA has a new law to address oil leaks from home heating systems. This law has two major provisions:
1. the installation of either an oil safety valve or an oil supply line with protective sleeve on systems that do not currently have these devices; and
2. insurance companies that write homeowner policies to offer coverage for leaks from heating systems that use oil.
Number two is where we come in – most homeowners policies do not currently include such coverage, leaving many to pay for costly cleanups out of their own pocket. This optional coverage is only available if the safety valve or protective sleeve have been installed. With this endorsement in place, your insurance policy could pay up to $100,000 for cleanup to your property, and as much as $300,000 for third-party damages resulting from your leak.
To qualify, you will need a completed certificate of compliance FORM 1A – your installation professional can help complete this form. Call us today with any questions: 781.444.3050
