Heartbleed – what you need to know

Have you heard about Heartbleed? Do you know what it is and how it can affect you?

Earlier this week, a bug was discovered in an encryption tool used by roughly two-thirds of all websites.   The vulnerability, called “Heartbleed”, allows attackers to intercept and read what would normally be encrypted data changes and to directly access the information held in memory on servers.  More information about the bug and what the attackers could gain may be found at: http://heartbleed.com.

Please be assured that your insurance information is safe as our systems are not affected by Heartbleed.  However, it is still advised to take extra precaution and to change your passwords. The news website, Mashable, has created a list that provides the status of a number of high profile sites and recommendations for users.  In addition, a number of security related sites have created tools that can be used to determine whether a site is safe or vulnerable.  One of those tools can be found here.
